Packaging Group I (X)
- Must pass a 1.8 m drop test (the most resistant packaging) for very dangerous products. (Poisonous substances such as cyanide, and infectious substances require this packaging group)
Packaging Group II (Y)
- Must pass a 1.2 m drop test * for moderately dangerous products. (Explosives, batteries intended for air transport require this packing group)
* if a box is intended for explosives it must have a special (specific) assessment for explosives
Packaging Group III (Z)
- Must pass a 0.8 m drop test for slightly (but still) dangerous goods. (E.g. flammable fluids and batteries intended for land transport require this group.)
A box that is tested for packaging group I can of course be used as packaging group II or III, provided the maximum weight is not exceeded.
